Roger P. Simon, M.D.

Chair and Director, R.S. Dow Neurobiology Laboratories, Legacy Research Hospital and Adjunct Professor, Neurology, Physiology and Pharmacology, OHSU. Dr. Simon is a lead scientist and an inventor of our acute stroke therapy. Dr. Simon received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Pennsylvania State University and an M.D. form Cornell University. He was formerly Professor of Neurology at the University of California at San Francisco and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was the first to demonstrate that pharmacological blockade of the NMDA-gated calcium channel was neuroprotective and discovered that preconditioning with brief brain ischemia protected against subsequnet stroke injury. Dr. Simon is the principal investigator on ~ $7.5 million dollars in grant funding from the NIH/NINDs.
