Mary Stenzel-Poore, Ph.D.

Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology and Heart Research Center Scientist at Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. Stenzel-Poore is a lead scientist and principal inventor of our protective stroke therapy. From 1989-1992, Dr. Stenzel-Poore was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Sciences. Dr. Stenzel-Poore received a B.S. degree from Lewis and Clark College and a Ph.D. in Immunology from Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. Stenzel-Poore was the first to show that preconditioning reprograms the brain’s genomic response to stroke injury. She has recently discovered several novel treatments that protect the brain from stroke injury. Dr. Stenzel-Poore is the principal investigator on several grants from the NIH/NINDs, including a phase II STTR grant, that funds ~ $4 million dollars in stroke research.
